There is something very real that I see time and time again throughout our bridal appointments and it's something that needs to be addressed … fear of better options, more commonly known as FOBO. While this term might be newer, the feelings and emotions aren't. We've all had that feeling after we've ordered something online or gone to a department store where you take a second and think, "Did I make the right choice? Is there something better out there?" That, my friends, is FOBO.
When it comes to bridal though, FOBO takes on a whole new meaning. Already brides are nervous, excited and sometimes even a little scared when they come in for their appointments. I mean shopping for your wedding dress is a big deal! It's the dress you'll marry the love of your life in! Then you add in the large entourages, opinionated family members and pretty dresses galore and the pressure can be overwhelming. It's very easy to start second guessing yourself and your choices. One minute you walk out of the dressing room and you think you've found THE dress, and then the next your best friend makes a face, doesn't immediately freak out over the dress and you're back in the dressing room changing before you know it.
There are ways to combat FOBO though! My number one piece of advice to brides is just to trust your gut. You know yourself better than anyone else! I know it's easy to get overwhelmed, but deep down you know what you love. I always say that everyone has a reaction when they put their wedding dress on. You just know when it's the one for you. Now, everyone's reaction can be different so don't think you didn't have the "say yes to the dress" moment just because you didn't cry. Some brides cry, some brides literally jump up and down screaming (yes, that's actually happened!) and other brides simply say, "Yep, this is it." Everyone is unique and so are their moments when they find the dress of their dreams.
My other way to combat FOBO is to not try too many dresses on and STOP when you find it. Just because there are a million and one options out there, doesn't mean you have to try them all on. This is crucial! I've seen it time and time again where a bride has already found the dress of her dreams, but isn't secure in her decision or ready to stop shopping. This is not a good situation to find yourself in; you definitely need to avoid it at all costs. What happens is that the more you try on, the more disillusioned you become. The dress you initially loved, you begin to question. Then when you finally circle back to it, it's lost its magic. It's not as wow or amazing as you remember and it never will be.
So, if you take anything away from this, it's to trust your instincts! They will never lead your wrong. Check out our YouTube channel and our FOBO video to see some of our real Lace brides conquer their FOBO and say yes to the dress. Until next time!
lots of love,
